Empowering Counselors with Expertise and Support in Navigating International University Admissions

Written by Christine Eischen

At Briteguide, we believe in the power of collaboration, support, and lifelong learning—especially when it comes to guiding students on their higher education journeys. Whether you're a school-based counselor or an independent educational consultant (IEC), navigating international university admissions can feel overwhelming at first. With different systems, requirements, and expectations across countries, there’s a lot to learn! But don’t worry—you’re not alone.

Why This Matters

As more students and families express interest in studying abroad, counselors are being asked to provide guidance on applications to universities around the world. The process differs greatly depending on the country—whether it’s the UCAS system in the UK, personal statements for Canadian institutions, or unique requirements for universities in Australia, the Netherlands, or beyond.

A Connection Built on Collaboration

Christine Eischen and Malissa Takacs bring years of expertise in international university advising to help demystify the process for counselors looking to expand their knowledge. Through our experience as international school counselors, participation in professional organizations, and roles as application readers for Northeastern University, Christine and Malissa formed a friendship rooted in shared knowledge and mutual support. Over time, we found ourselves collaborating to enhance the work we do as independent counselors, recognizing the growing need for guidance in international university admissions. Seeing other counselors in professional groups express a desire to learn more about supporting students with applications abroad, we felt inspired to create opportunities for collaboration and learning within our field.
